Juli, I've never joined an SGM church. SGM has always been in the background of my life. I went to TAG right after I got saved where Larry Tomczak shared a pulpit with JC. For awhile, I hung at the U of MD with Che Ahn, who had quite a successful little outreach to college students. Some of you may remember Che.

Several years after they shut down TAG and started their church, my dh and I (newly married) thought to join it - what was it called back then? Covenent Life? It was before the PDI days. We even went to a Celebration but were completely ignored. It was like we were invisible: sit at a table with folk, they did not acknolwedge us. Sit at a table win hopes that someone would join us? Nope. Make an appointment to meet with a pastor only to have the pastor not show up. We finally heard the Lord. However, even though we do not attend an SGM, we have lots of family who do.

No, this was not with SGM. It was with a now defunct Jewish ministry called B'nai Yeshua (children of Jesus). BY hosted summer camps for about 20 young adults. They discipled us through classes, work (it cost nothing, we paid them back by helping in the office, doing painting and yard work, or working in the kitchen) and evangelism. We went into the city (NY) every week for a full day of chatting with the good folk of the diamond and garment districts. That was a hoot! We'd go for half days to the small towns I mentioned earlier and/or into the local malls. It was an awesome time.

Remnant

Awesome that you were passing out tracts - did you do this with your SGM church by chance? I was also almost arrested once in San Antonio for passing out tracts..(NOT with my SGM) I have been asked more than once to stop in various other cities, including Dallas and Ft. Worth. The cops in SA were just ignorant..and they said they would arrest us if we continued. I had a moment where I thought about it, and then decided that I didn't care if they did, if I got arrested I would just share the gospel in jail with the women I would be locked up with! ..the point was I had every right to do what I was doing and their ignorance was not going to trump my freedom.

Ignorance should NEVER trump freedom, in any area of our lives.

So my crime: passing out tracks.

Mr. Police Officer ordered me to stop.

But I was prepared. I knew my rights. I was tutored by our group ahead of time to NOT stop if someone approaches you with that demand. I was young and quite gung-ho.

Our fearless group leader saw my "trouble" and came arunning to save me. Mr. PO informed us that we needed a permit from town hall. Which fearless group leader was able to obtain within 15 minutes.

I was never hauled to jail. But I did feel the protection of the Lord as PO reached out to haul me off. The experience has taught me that the Lord will protect me (even if I had been taken in) but, also, to not be stupid.

Come on, Remnant, don't leave us hanging. What was your crime?

RT,

Surely there is more to your story than that you got thrown in jail because your dog was in your front yard...what happened?

Guy, well...I've been on women's death row in Texas - and lived to tell about it! haha

I actually met Karla Fay Tucker - the Christian woman who was executed several years back (very controversial because she had obviously been rehabilitated, but her crime was very heineous as well)- I wasn't walking with the Lord at the time, but she shared the gospel with me while she was on death row.

Streaking. That is totally it. Is that it??

Guy--I affirm--were you on the wrong side or the right side of the bars?

You got me on the first one, Remnant. Dog at large. In the slambo. It was great. Always wanted to be involved in prison fellowship.

ahh...Hauppague. I've spent much time there, some of it fellowshipping with local law enforcement.

For the record, I've been in the toughest penitentiaries in the United States. Beat that one...

Let's play "Guess My Crime."

I was almost thrown in the slammer.

Who: I was with a group, although I was the only one threatened by the nice Police Officer.
What: That's for you to guess.
When: The summer of 1979. I was just out of college. Young and innocent.
Where: can't recall if it was Patchogue or Hauppague, NY. Both are cute little towns out on Long Island.
Why: I confess that I broke a law.

I'm sorry you're puny, my sister. (did I just give away my region?)

I will pray right now that you are relieved and that you find some more giggles through the weekend.

Great TP story. I threw milk all over my HS principal once.

Nah, Jim would know exactly who did it. Plus, I always get caught. I toilet papered a friend's house when I was in high school. Wouldn't you know it - a cop car came down the street. I ducked behind some bushes and scurried home as fast as I could. First and last time I ever got close to going to the slammer. Oh, memories...
